The Workhaus is an art gallery and independent cinema near the centre of Liverpool in a converted warehouse with a fast-growing reputation for showing innovative and uncompromising  art and  undergound film and has organised a number of high profile events.

In 1997 and 1998 we organised and hosted the North by Northwest Independent Film Festival the biggest wholly independent film festival in the world. Last year the festival showed over 500 films as well as a selection of performance and art based exhibitions.

Also during the past year The Workhaus has held a number of exhibitions including Kate Dadiani's 'modern landscapes'.

This year The Workhaus is involved with 'TRACEY' the fringe of the Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art, the first art biennial in the UK.

Six weeks of biennial events begin with a blast on September 25th with the Tracey opening party.

We aim to have no exhibition lasting longer than a week with 'private views' opening each exhibition on Fridays. With your participation, 'Tracey' at The Workhaus could be one of the most exhilarating events to have been flung on the art scene .

We also produce independent films and supply film resources and you can hire the Workhaus premises for various functions and performances.
