The Liverpool Biennial Of Contemporary Art Liverpool, UK, September 24 - November 7 1999 The Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art is a major international arts event taking place in Liverpool which will exhibit the best of contemporary visual art and is the first ever art Biennial to be held in the UK. Highlights: The International Exhibition - Curated by Anthony Bond, the International Exhibition is presented in partnership with Tate Gallery Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, Open Eye Gallery, FACT, Bluecoat Arts Centre, University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University. Exploring the theme of trace , it will bring together over 60 artists from 25 countries in venues around the city. TRACE will draw on Liverpool's unique context through its social and economic histories and geographic location as a port linking it to other communities and countries across the globe. John Moores 21 - The UK's biggest and best national open exhibition for contemporary painters selected by a jury of experts. Founded in 1957 by Sir John Moores , the exhibition is held every two years with a consistent track record for spotting new talent. Previous artists who have exhibited include David Hockney, John Bratby, Chris Ofili and Callum Innes. New Contemporaries 99 - New Contemporaries is the annual exhibition of contemporary art by students and recent graduates from colleges throughout the UK. Offering the first platform to the newly-emerged artist, this year's exhibition features 33 of the most promising artists working in a diverse range of media. TRACEY - Local, national and international artists with initiative, blooming with radical visions and thought, show their work in found spaces in and amongst the architectural splendours of the city and beyond.
