Shiptrak: The Movie

A 3 Minute and 12 second long, looping Vista Pro fly-through which inspired Ed : The Movie. It's a fly-through of a 'Red Planet' environment viewed from behind a spaceship, animated in 3D Studio Max, with a thumping Rebirth - distorted guitar soundtrack, all compressed down to a 208x176 150K/sec, 5 Meg Mpeg using the freeware encoder TMPGEnc. The original is a 50 Meg mpeg which plays at about VHS quality video and CD quality audio.

Maximum effect, minimum know-how.
Vista Pro is old, but because it's such a 'simple' landscape renderer it can churn out a 3 minute AVI faster than anything else. The 3D model is simply overlayed on a transparent (green) background within Adobe Premiere. Each manoeuver is a 2 to 4 second long event that begins and ends with the ship back at it's starting point, so the clips can follow each other in any order. The sequence is dictated by whatever is happening in the background video, so a right turn suggests the use of a bank-right clip, or ignore the suggestion and achieve a weirder filght, you can't really lose.
